Walker Cup: Great Britain and Ireland beat USA to regain Cup

Great Britain and Ireland have beaten the USA to regain amateur golf’s Walker Cup at Royal Lytham & St Anne’s.┬áThe home side secured victory with six matches still to finish, to take an unassailable 13-and-a-half-point lead to USA’s six and a half points.

Leading 10-6 after the morning foursomes, they needed only three and a half points from 10 singles matches.

Ashley Chesters, Cormac Sharvin and Jimmy Mullen and a half from Paul Dunne secured victory.

It is only GB&I’s ninth Walker Cup win, but their fifth in the last six contests on home soil.
